The Alpha Lambda Chapter formally agreed to provide funding for this project in August 2013. Since then, Alpha Brothers throughout the city have worked to raised funds to support project completion. For its efforts, Alpha Lambda Chapter was listed as a co-sponsor on two (2) Civil Rights Markers (listed below). The first marker will be erected at 427 S. Fourth Street, site of the old Kaufman-Straus Department Store. The second marker will stand at 526 S. Fourth Street, site of the old Walgreens Store. Each marker makes mention to Alpha Phi Alpha's presence in these events. Though not directly stated on the Walgreens Marker, Frank L. Stanley was also a member of Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and had just completed his tenure as the Fraternity's 18th General President a year prior to the noted incident.
Special thanks to the chapter Historical Marker Committee (Brothers Charles Piphus, Jr., Charles Dixon, Jr., and Dr. Gregory Woolfolk) for its hard work, all Brothers & Friends who gave a donation and the Chapter for approving to support this initiative.
