The March for Dimes and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. have a national partnership aimed at providing education, motivation and skill-building on issues of responsibility, relationships, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases for young males ages 12-15 years.
Locally, in addition to Project Alpha, the signature partnership project among the two organizations, the Alpha Lambda Chapter supports the March of Dimes March for Babies event annually. The monumentally good cause of improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality stands on its own. But there are other such reasons we participate; because it hits home. Many of our members and their families and friends have been aided by the research and work of the March of Dimes. One such Brother is Cecil Brookins, who along with his wife, had twins placed in the NICU upon their birth in 2006. Previously Cecil had participated in numerous walks for the March of Dimes, but could never guess he would one day be utilizing their services and understanding the importance of their mission on such a personal level. Find out more about Cecil's story here.
