Although this social mixer is hosted by the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, other local organizations like the National Black MBA Association and the Louisville Urban League Young Professionals are present to co-host the event. The aggregation of about 40 professionals set the scene of a typical weekday happy hour, albeit with purpose.
Between laughter and cordial conversation, attendees begin to exchange ideas as well as contact information. Hosts casually gauge feedback from new guest about the event as they promote the next one. Brothers seamlessly conclude dialogue with the promotion of the chapter’s 5K run scheduled later in the summer. Business cards are handed over while other quickly pull out mobile devices to “friend” others on Facebook.
As usually, the crowd slowly migrates from the bar of Al J’s Lounge to Koi Gallery. It’s a black owned boutique conveniently located right outside the atrium. Drawn by the awareness of free hors d'oeuvres and wine, people begin to congregate at the high tables in the joining hallway. The night concludes with alliances fostered, new friends acquired, and questions regarding the next “Get Connected” Professional Networking Mixer.
